Marksmen wrap up long week
It was a long week for the Marksmen, with 3 league matches taking place in one week.
The first of three matches saw the Marksmen host Ruggles FC in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on a very hot afternoon, 93 degrees at kick off. Ruggles came into the match in third place with only 1 loss in five matches. A first half penalty kick was awarded to the Marksmen with leading goal scorer Fabio Andrade converting for the lead. Deep into the second half in stoppage time, Ruggles managed to grab the tying goal to tie the match 1-1 and moments later the final whistle blew, 1-1 draw for the Marksmen.
The second match, three days after the Ruggles match, the Marksmen headed up to Boston to take on the New Hampshire Bobcats. Two goals in the first half for the Marksmen, Walter Romao & Fabio Andrade helped set the tone for the remainder of the game. The Bobcats managed to grab a goal midway through the second half but a relisiant defensive performance by the backline helped the Marksmen grab all 3 points and the victory. The win over the Bobcats helped the Marksmen remain undefeated in the last four matches.
Match 3 of the week, a Saturday evening kickoff in Boston against the undefeated Santa Cruz U20’s. A slow start by the Marksmen cost the team dearly as come halftime the scoreline was 4-0 against the FRMFC. A solid second half performance by the team helped keep the Santa Cruz offense off the scoreboard and the final whistle saw the Marksmen suffer their first defeat in 5 matches.
